Hannah Agten

Joint Postdoctoral Researcher (KUL)

Hannah Agten, PhD is a joint post-doctoral researcher working at KU Leuven. Hannah has a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology and a Master’s degree in Biochemical Engineering Technology from KU Leuven. After defending her Master’s thesis on silk fibroin and chitosan-based biomaterials for bone tissue in 2017, she proceeded to pursue a doctoral degree. Her PhD project focused on bone and cartilage tissue engineering, evaluating cell-laden gelatin-based hydrogel constructs both in vitro and in vivo.

In 2024, she started a post-doctoral innovation mandate in collaboration with BIO INX and with the support of VLAIO (Flanders innovation & entrepreneurship), in which she will investigate GMP-ready cartilage and bone specific cell-laden hydrogels for multiple bioprinting strategies. Hannah’s main field of expertise is assessing the tissue formation capacity of multiple cell types when embedded in a hydrogel matrix.
